I applied for the Live & work course with the RNZAF award, hoping to get posted with the Air Security, but ended up with the Safety & Surface Flight. They are a great bunch of guys, and I will be joining them soon, as after the 15th of Janurary, 2001 I will be in the RNZAF myself. It was about 5.45am when I got picked up from my front gate by Mr Harrison, who gave me a ride through to Dunedin, where we caught a bus to Christchurch. At Christchurch we boarded an RNZAF C-130H Hercules for the flight to Whenuapai. I would not reccomend the experiance to anyone, the aircraft are cramped and loud, but get you there. At Whenuapai we were met by our course directing staff who took us to the NCFTSU headquarters. It took about two minutes for me to get the nickname Gorrrre. We were briefed on living arrangements, and the base standing orders. After this, we went to bed, for an early start the next morning. Really early. We went to the Sky Lounge and were met there by personell from the various branches of the RNZAF who took us to our workplace. We worked at our various jobs for the rest of the week, before flying home on an RNZAF Boeing 727 |
